Amazonas Shopping, opened in 1991 on Avenida Djalma Batista, is the biggest mall in the city — and one of the largest in the north of Brazil. The complex covers four storeys, with a cinema, a sizeable food court, an indoor amusement area, the standard Brazilian department-store anchors (Renner, Riachuelo, C&A), and a separate hypermarket. Brand-name electronics here are noticeably cheaper than elsewhere in Brazil because Manaus sits within the Zona Franca.
It is also, on punishing afternoons, an effective place to hide from the heat. Buses from across the city converge on the avenida outside; taxis and Ubers run a constant shuttle to the centre.
