A short walk from the Teatro Amazonas, the Palácio da Justiça is another monument of the rubber-boom years — a flamboyant neoclassical pile inaugurated in 1900 to house the state courts. The exterior, with its mansard roof, allegorical sculptures and rusticated stonework, is one of the most photogenic facades in the centre.
After the courts moved to a modern building in the 2000s, the palace was restored and reopened as a cultural centre. The interior preserves the original courtroom with its carved jacaranda judges' bench, plus a small museum of legal history. Free guided tours run on weekdays.
