The Estação Hidroviária is the gateway for passenger travel up and down the Amazon. The terminal sits next to the floating port at the foot of the centro and handles regular departures for Belém, Santarém, Tabatinga (on the Colombian and Peruvian border), Tefé, Parintins and a long list of smaller towns.
Inside, ticket counters for the different shipping lines line one wall and timetables are posted on boards (in Portuguese). Buy tickets in advance for popular long-distance routes, especially in high season. For short cross-river trips and excursions, use the smaller wharves to either side of the main terminal.
