Aska is one of the longest-running ramen houses in Liberdade, a no-frills spot on Rua Galvão Bueno that has been feeding the neighbourhood for decades. The menu is short and the focus is the bowl: a clear, well-made shoyu broth, springy noodles, chashu pork, and the usual toppings, served fast at a plain dining room that fills with a mix of local Japanese-Brazilians and visitors.
It is not trying to be fashionable, and that is the appeal — this is the everyday ramen the neighbourhood actually eats, at a fair price. Expect a queue at peak times on weekends. A reliable choice before or after the Sunday fair on the nearby praça.
