Getting There

São Paulo has two main airports. Guarulhos International (GRU) is 25 km northeast of the centre and handles almost all international flights. The Airport Express bus to the city centre takes about 40 minutes off-peak and well over an hour in traffic; a taxi or Uber is 80–120 reais depending on traffic. The Airport Train to Engenheiro Goulart connects to the suburban rail network and is the cheapest way in.

Congonhas (CGH), much closer to the centre, handles the busy shuttle to Rio and other domestic flights. A taxi to the south-zone neighbourhoods (Vila Olímpia, Itaim, Jardins) takes 20 to 40 minutes depending on traffic.

The Tietê Rodoviária is the main intercity bus station, with services across Brazil and into neighbouring countries. The Rio shuttle by bus takes about six hours; the air shuttle takes 45 minutes plus airport time.
