Rua Oscar Freire in the Jardins is São Paulo's luxury strip, with the international fashion houses and the better Brazilian designers; Alameda Lorena and Alameda Itu are the surrounding side streets. Shopping Iguatemi (the original Brazilian shopping mall, opened 1966) sits at the south end of Faria Lima and is the high-end mall. Shopping JK Iguatemi in Itaim and Cidade Jardim further south are newer and even more upmarket.

For markets and street shopping, the 25 de Março district downtown is the wholesale and bargain quarter — chaotic, crowded, every kind of cheap goods in the world. Saturday morning at the Praça Benedito Calixto in Pinheiros is the antiques and curio market, with live chorinho music in the afternoon.
