Igreja Matriz de Santo Amaro is the old central church of Santo Amaro, which was once a separate city before São Paulo swallowed it. The present church dates from 1907, but its small wooden image of Saint Amaro is said to go back to 1560.
It is a selective stop, best if you are already exploring the southern side of the city. The church gives Santo Amaro a visible link to its older town history.
