São Paulo's main LGBTQ+ street — bars, a rainbow-flagged mall, and the Pride heartland

Rua Frei Caneca, running parallel to Rua Augusta a couple of blocks east, is the most visible LGBTQ+ street in São Paulo. Its bars, saunas, and the rainbow-flagged Shopping Frei Caneca have made it the everyday heart of the city's gay scene — busiest in the blocks between Avenida Paulista and Rua da Consolação, where the sidewalk tables stay full late.

It is also a feeder for the world's largest Pride parade, which fills Avenida Paulista a short walk uphill every June. The whole corridor is relaxed and walkable by day, and at its liveliest on weekend nights.
