Pirajá

Classic Pinheiros boteco — chopp, croquetes, and crowds spilling onto the sidewalk

Pirajá has been the standard Pinheiros boteco — corner bar — since 1978. The format is unchanged: standing room around the wood bar, a few tables inside, and at the weekends a crowd that overflows onto the sidewalk and the road outside. The draft beer (chopp) is the order, kept properly cold, and the bar snacks are above the average — bolinho de bacalhau, ham croquettes, pasteis de queijo.

A good first stop on a Pinheiros-into-Vila Madalena night. The sister bar Original in Pinheiros and Astor across town in Vila Madalena are similar in spirit, all run by the same group. None of them take reservations and none of them are quiet; that is the point.
