Parque das Mangabeiras is the city's biggest park — 235 hectares of Atlantic Forest on the slopes of the Serra do Curral, on the southern edge of the city. It is the closest most visitors will get to the surrounding mountains without leaving the city, and it offers some of the best views of Belo Horizonte from above.
A network of walking trails runs through the park, including the Trilha do Sol Levante, which climbs to a viewpoint over the entire city. There are picnic areas, playgrounds, and a small amphitheatre at the entrance that hosts free concerts on weekends. The park is closed on Mondays.
