Belo Horizonte is well connected by air and road, sitting roughly two-thirds of the way between Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro.
By air: Tancredo Neves International Airport (CNF) is about 38 kilometers from downtown. Several international airlines offer direct flights — American Airlines from Miami, Copa from Panama City, TAP from Lisbon. Domestic carriers Azul, Gol, LATAM, and others connect Belo Horizonte to all major Brazilian cities. Flying is the best option if you are short on time, and domestic fares can be surprisingly cheap if booked early.
By car: From Brasilia or Rio de Janeiro, take the BR-040 highway. From Sao Paulo, take the BR-381. The airport is reached via the MG-010 state highway, about 30 to 40 minutes from the city depending on traffic. An international driving license is recommended for car rental.
