Getting There

Búzios is about 170 km east of Rio de Janeiro. Most visitors arrive by bus from the Novo Rio bus terminal, with direct services operated by Auto Viação 1001 running several times daily; the journey takes around 2.5 to 3 hours depending on traffic. Departures from Rio are frequent on weekday mornings and throughout the day on Fridays; returning on Sunday afternoons can involve long waits or standing room on crowded buses.

By car, take the BR-101 federal highway to Cabo Frio and then follow the RJ-102 out along the peninsula. The drive from Rio takes about 2 to 2.5 hours outside peak times, though the final stretch into Vila de Búzios can be slow when the town is busy. Parking is limited in the centre; several pousadas offer secure parking for guests.

There is no airport in Búzios. Travellers arriving by air land at Galeão International Airport in Rio de Janeiro and continue by ground. Some organised tours include direct transfers from Rio hotels.
