Orla Bardot

The Orla Bardot is a waterfront promenade running along the edge of town, named after the French actress Brigitte Bardot whose 1964 visit effectively launched Búzios as an international destination. The promenade connects Rua das Pedras to the small working harbour, and the bronze statue of Bardot at its midpoint is perhaps the most photographed spot in town.

The promenade itself is a pleasant place to walk regardless of the celebrity associations. The view across the water takes in the bay, the fishing boats, and the hills of the far shore. Benches are set at intervals for sitting and watching the light change over the water. At sunset, the western sky behind the hills turns orange and pink and everyone on the promenade seems to stop and look at the same moment.

A story
The bronze statue was created by sculptor Totem in 1999. Bardot herself was not present at the inauguration, though she later acknowledged the tribute warmly. The statue shows her in a windswept pose looking out over the water, and it has become so identified with the town that images of it appear on virtually every piece of Búzios merchandise.
