Rua das Pedras

Rua das Pedras — Stone Street — is the cobbled main drag of Vila de Búzios, running along the waterfront for several hundred metres through the centre of town. During the day it is a shopping street: boutiques, galleries, souvenir shops, jewellery stalls. After dark it transforms into something more animated, with restaurants opening onto the pavement and bars that stay busy until two in the morning.

The street is genuinely charming in a way that beach town commercial strips rarely manage. The stones underfoot are real — rounded pebbles that make heels a bad idea — and the low colonial-style buildings that line it have been kept to a scale that feels human. It is not undiscovered: on a Saturday night in January it is crowded and expensive. But even then it works. Walk the full length to the Orla Bardot at the far end, where the famous statue of Bardot looks out to sea.

A story
Brigitte Bardot first came to Búzios in 1964 with her then-boyfriend Bob Zagury. She spent several weeks here, prompting an international press frenzy that effectively invented the town's reputation as a glamorous destination. She called it the Saint-Tropez of Brazil — a comparison that has followed the town around ever since.
