Getting There

Campinas is one of the better-connected cities in inland Brazil, thanks mainly to its role as São Paulo state's industrial and logistics hub.

By air: Viracopos International Airport (VCP), about 20 km southwest of the city centre, is the main hub for Azul Brazilian Airlines and handles a significant volume of domestic and international budget traffic. Connections to Rio de Janeiro, Brasília, Belo Horizonte, and other major cities are frequent. Viracopos is also used by travellers flying into the broader São Paulo region when fares are cheaper than Guarulhos — though the transfer to São Paulo city takes 90 minutes or more by road. A taxi or app-car into central Campinas takes 30–40 minutes; there is also an airport bus service.

By bus: The most comfortable way to arrive from São Paulo is by coach from São Paulo's Tietê bus terminal. Several companies run frequent departures; the journey takes about 90 minutes depending on traffic. The Campinas bus terminal (Terminal Rodoviário) is centrally located and well served by city buses and Uber. Long-distance coaches also connect Campinas to Belo Horizonte, Brasília, and the major cities of the south.

By car: Campinas sits at the intersection of major São Paulo state motorways. The SP-330 (Anhanguera) and SP-348 (Bandeirantes) both connect the city to São Paulo; the Bandeirantes is the faster route and takes 45–60 minutes in normal traffic. Driving from São Paulo on a Friday afternoon is inadvisable.

By train: Intercity rail service to Campinas no longer operates. The Trem Intercidades project to link Campinas and São Paulo by train has been discussed for years but has not been built.
