Getting There

Teresópolis is about 90 kilometres northeast of Rio de Janeiro by road. From Rio, the most direct route follows the BR-116 (Via Dutra) north and then the BR-495 up through Magé and Guapimirim to Teresópolis — the journey takes around one and a half to two hours depending on traffic. The mountain road up from Magé via the RJ-122 is the more scenic alternative, with Atlantic Forest on both sides and dramatic views as you climb.

Bus services connect Rio's Novo Rio bus terminal to Teresópolis several times daily. The Única/Coletivos do Sul and Viação Teresópolis companies both run services; the journey takes around two hours. There is no train connection. Driving is the most flexible option if you want to explore the area — a car is useful for reaching the various park entrances and outlying pousadas.
