The Memory House Museum (Museu Casa da Memória) sits at the heart of the Prainha Historic Site and chronicles the history of Vila Velha from the first Portuguese landing in 1535 through to the 20th century. The collection includes period photographs, documents, maps, and household objects that illustrate daily life in the colonial and imperial periods.
The building itself is an 18th-century townhouse that has been carefully restored. Even if the content doesn't detain you for long, it's worth stopping in to see the architecture and the courtyard. Admission is free or inexpensive, and the staff are generally happy to explain the exhibits.
