Frohsinn

Frohsinn ("cheerfulness" in German) is one of Blumenau's oldest and most beloved beer halls, in business since the early 20th century. The menu runs to classic German-Brazilian food — eisbein (pork knuckle) with sauerkraut and bread dumplings, several types of grilled sausage, and the house draft beer in half-litre and litre glasses. The dining room is large, convivial, and loud on weekend evenings.

The food is honest and filling rather than refined. Frohsinn is the place to come if you want to understand what Oktoberfest is about the other 50 weeks of the year — the same music, the same food, the same easy sociability, but without the festival crowds.
