Getting There

Caxias do Sul has its own airport — Hugo Cantergiani Regional Airport (CXJ) — with regular flights from São Paulo (Guarulhos and Congonhas) and Rio de Janeiro. The flight from São Paulo takes about 90 minutes and is the quickest way to reach the city from outside the south.

By road, Caxias do Sul is 127 km north of Porto Alegre, the state capital, on the BR-116 highway. The drive takes about 90 minutes and is straightforward. Porto Alegre has a major international airport (POA) with connections throughout Brazil and international routes; flying to Porto Alegre and driving north is often the better option for international visitors.

Buses connect Caxias to Porto Alegre frequently throughout the day; the journey takes about 2 hours via the scenic mountain highway. From São Paulo by bus is possible but very long (around 12 hours).
