Buddhist Temple of Foz do Iguaçu

The Buddhist Temple (Templo Budista) reflects another layer of Foz do Iguaçu's multicultural character — the city has a notable Taiwanese and Chinese community that established the temple in the 1990s. The structure is a traditional Chinese-style pagoda complex with red columns, curved roof tiles, and interior shrines to the Buddha and Bodhisattvas. Gardens and a large lotus pond complete the setting, making it a peaceful contrast to the more frenetic attractions nearby.

The temple is open to visitors and entry is free, though donations are welcomed. The interiors are genuinely atmospheric: incense smoke, lacquered woodwork, and the smell of offerings. A small shop sells Buddhist books and trinkets. It is not a major sight by any measure, but it is a quiet hour away from the commercial bustle of central Foz and a reminder that this border city is genuinely cosmopolitan in ways that have nothing to do with tourism.
