Snowland, opened in 2013 on the road between Gramado and Canela, is South America's first indoor snow park. The temperature is kept around -6 °C and the slopes are covered in genuine machine-made snow. You can ski, snowboard, sled, ice-skate, and ride a chairlift inside an enormous refrigerated dome.
It is an oddity — the climate of Rio Grande do Sul is the closest Brazil normally gets to snow — and it draws crowds of Brazilians who have never seen the real thing. Equipment and warm clothing are rented on site. Visits are timed (around two hours). Expensive but a novel experience in a tropical country.
