Fuerte de Coquimbo

Fuerte de Coquimbo, also known as Castillo del Carmen, is a remnant of the city's coastal defences from the 19th century. It was used during conflicts with Spain and Peru, and its position still explains the military value of Coquimbo's harbour.

The remains are modest, but the lookout toward the coast, seabirds, and nearby marine life makes it a worthwhile short stop while exploring the port side of the city.
