The port is the reason Coquimbo exists, and it still gives the city its working character. Fishing boats, cargo activity, seafood stalls, and harbour views make a useful counterweight to La Serena's more decorative seaside.
This is not a manicured waterfront attraction. Go for atmosphere, fresh seafood, and a look at the city doing its ordinary work.
