Taxis: The most practical option for visitors. Barranquilla taxis are metered and relatively cheap. Ride-hailing apps (InDriver and Cabify operate in the city) are often easier than flagging a cab on the street, particularly at night.
Transmetro: The city's Bus Rapid Transit system runs north–south along the main arterial roads and connects the historic centre with the Zona Norte and the southern neighbourhoods. It's clean, air-conditioned, and inexpensive, but the network is limited and doesn't reach all tourist destinations.
Walking: The historic centre and the Parque Cultural del Caribe area are walkable, but Barranquilla is a large, spread-out city and the heat makes long walks uncomfortable. The Zona Norte is best reached by taxi or Transmetro from the centre.
Car rental: Available at the airport and through the major agencies. Useful for day trips to Cartagena or Santa Marta, though city traffic is congested during rush hours.
