Acuario y Museo del Mar

The Rodadero Sea Aquarium and Museum sits on a small island a couple of kilometres offshore from El Rodadero beach, reached by motorboat from the beachfront. The aquarium holds tanks of Caribbean marine life — sharks, rays, colourful reef fish — and there are dolphin and sea lion shows that appeal particularly to children. The attached maritime museum displays nautical instruments, historical artefacts, and a collection of Inca and pre-Columbian ceramics.

The boat ride to and from the island is part of the experience, giving good views back to the coastal cliffs and to the Sierra Nevada rising behind the city. Boats leave from El Rodadero beach throughout the day; the round trip plus entrance is reasonably priced. Open daily 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Arrive early on weekends to avoid the school groups.
