Getting There

Tobia lies about 90 kilometres northwest of Bogotá by road, reached via the Bogotá–Honda highway (known locally as the Ruta del Sol corridor through Cundinamarca). In moderate traffic the drive takes around two hours; leaving Bogotá early on a weekend morning is strongly advised, as the highway backs up on Saturday and the return journey on Sunday afternoon can stretch to three hours or more.

The simplest option for most visitors is to book a package with one of the adventure operators, which almost always includes round-trip transport from a fixed collection point in Bogotá — typically in the Chapinero or Usaquén neighbourhoods. Shuttle buses depart early on weekend mornings and return in the late afternoon. The cost is bundled into the package price, and you arrive at the river without having to think about navigation.

Independent travellers can reach the area by taking a bus from Bogotá's Terminal de Transportes del Norte toward Villeta or Guaduas. From Villeta, shared taxis (colectivos) run toward Nimaima and can drop you at the turnoff for Tobia; the final stretch may require a local mototaxi or a short walk. This route works but involves more time and coordination than the operator shuttles, and it only makes sense if you have already arranged your activities independently. There is no direct public bus service to Tobia itself.
