Things to Do

Adventure is the entire reason Tobia exists as a tourist destination, and the range of activities on offer is wider than most first-time visitors expect. Whitewater rafting on the Río Negro remains the undisputed centrepiece — it is the reason thousands of Bogotanos make the two-hour journey northwest every weekend — but zip lines, rock climbing and inner-tube floats round out a full day in the canyon. Most operators bundle several activities into a single package, which is the easiest way to make the most of a short visit.

The canyon setting adds as much to the experience as the activities themselves. At around 900 metres above sea level, Tobia sits nearly 1,700 metres below Bogotá, and the drop brings a genuine change of climate and vegetation. The hillsides are covered in tropical dry forest, cacti and flowering trees, and the air is noticeably warmer and drier. After a morning on the river, that warmth feels like a reward.
