Getting There

Tunja is easy to reach from Bogotá by bus and makes a straightforward day trip, though an overnight stay lets you explore more properly.

By bus from Bogotá: Frequent buses leave from Terminal Salitre (the main Bogotá bus terminal) for Tunja roughly every 10–15 minutes throughout the day. The journey takes about 2.5–3 hours depending on traffic and the route. Operators including Copetran, Expreso Brasilia, and El Rápido Duitama cover the route; tickets cost around $8–13 USD. Buses arrive at Tunja's main terminal, a short taxi ride from the historic centre.

By car: The toll road north from Bogotá is fast and well-maintained. Allow 2–2.5 hours in normal traffic.

Tunja has no airport. The nearest one is El Dorado in Bogotá.
