Things to Do

Tunja's main draw is its colonial centre — a cluster of churches, mansions, and public spaces that have survived four and a half centuries largely intact. The Plaza de Bolívar is the natural starting point, but the real rewards are in the buildings just off it: painted ceilings, baroque altars, and the eerie preserved cell of a mystic nun. Budget a full morning to take it seriously.
