Puente de Boyaca

Patriotic bridge and monument complex marking the battle that secured New Granada independence.

Puente de Boyaca is one of Colombia's symbolic independence sites, a small bridge made large by the battle fought here in 1819. The surrounding monument complex gives the place a ceremonial feel, with statues, open lawns, and enough space to imagine troop movements across the high Andean landscape.

It is an easy excursion from Tunja and works best if you already have some context for Simon Bolivar's campaign. The site is not just a monument to look at; it is a useful pause in Boyaca, where national history is tied to a very specific river crossing and road.
