Puerto Baquerizo Moreno has a modest but honest restaurant scene geared to the mix of locals, backpackers, and independent travellers who make up most of the town's visitors. The main waterfront and the streets just behind it have the highest concentration of places to eat.
Seafood is the obvious choice — the local fish, including dorado (mahi-mahi), is excellent when fresh. Several waterfront restaurants serve plates of grilled fish with rice and salad at reasonable prices. The ceviches here are lighter and more citrus-forward than the creamy Peruvian style, and the fresh tuna and dorado versions are particularly good.
Budget travellers do well. There are several cheap set-lunch spots (almuerzo) on the streets behind the waterfront, serving soup, a main, and a drink for a few dollars. For something more polished, the restaurants around the main pier cater to the cruise-boat crowd and offer more extensive menus with better service. A few places have outdoor seating facing the harbour, where watching the sea lions argue over the pier benches is part of the meal.
