Ecuador has two international airports. Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) is the main hub for the highlands and northern Ecuador. Guayaquil's José Joaquín de Olmedo Airport (GYE) is more convenient if you're heading straight to the coast or the Galápagos.
From North America, direct flights operate from Miami, New York, Houston, and Atlanta. American, Delta, United, and LATAM all serve Ecuador. From Europe, most flights connect through Miami or Bogotá; KLM has a direct Amsterdam–Quito route. Flying time from Miami is about 4 hours; from New York around 6.
Most travellers overland from Colombia enter via Tulcán in the north (across from Ipiales). The Pan-American Highway connects the two countries and the border is open to pedestrians and vehicles. From Peru, the main crossing is at Huaquillas–Aguas Verdes on the coast, or Macará in the south highlands. Overland buses run direct from Lima, Bogotá, and other South American cities.
Entry by cruise ship is common for Galápagos visits; ships call at Puerto Ayora and Puerto Baquerizo Moreno.
