The post-earthquake city centre is compact and pleasant to walk. The main sights — the cathedral, the municipal museum, Parque Las Vegas, the Casa de la Cultura — are within fifteen minutes of each other on foot, and the pedestrian priority redesign of the centre means the streets are less chaotic than many Ecuadorian cities of similar size.
Taxis: Abundant and cheap. Short rides within the city cost $1.50–$3. Use InDriver or negotiate the fare before getting in.
City buses: The urban bus network is extensive and covers outer districts including Picoazá and the university campuses. Fares are a few cents. For the Mamey Ecological Park, the park is directly adjacent to the main bus terminal.
To coastal towns: Shared buses and minivans run frequently to Manta (45 min), Crucita (30–40 min), and San Jacinto (1 hour) from the main terminal and from stops along Avenida Universitaria.
