On the left bank of the Portoviejo River, Parque Ecológico Mamey is a green pocket of secondary forest and riverbank habitat five minutes from the city centre. The park has walking trails, lookout points over the river valley, and a resident population of birds including parrots and herons. It is the most accessible place near Portoviejo to escape the heat under a tree canopy rather than a concrete awning.
Access is via the Mamey or San José bridges. The park is directly accessible from the main bus terminal, making it an easy addition to a transit stop in the city.
