Quito's Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) is one of the busiest airports in South America, with direct flights from major North American and European cities as well as connections throughout Latin America. The airport moved to a new facility at Tababela, about 18 km east of the city, in 2013. The journey to the city centre takes 45–60 minutes by taxi (negotiate a fixed fare before departure, around $25–35) or by the Aeroservicios express bus service, which runs to the terminal at La Marín in the Historic Centre.
By bus, Quito is connected to every major Ecuadorian city via the main terminal at Quitumbe in the south of the city. The bus from Guayaquil (4–5 hours) is the most frequent route. Overnight sleeper buses connect Quito to Peru (Huaquillas border crossing) and Colombia (Tulcán). There is no intercity passenger rail service to Quito at present, though there have been proposals to restore the historic train to Guayaquil as a tourist service.
