The Musée des Cultures Guyanaises complements Cayenne's older departmental museum by focusing more directly on the people and cultures of French Guiana. It sits on Rue Madame Payé in the historic centre, close enough to combine with Place des Palmistes, the market, and the cathedral without turning the day into a museum march.
The collection and exhibitions look at Guianese cultural life across Indigenous, Creole, Maroon, and immigrant communities, with objects, photographs, textiles, and domestic material that explain how varied this small territory really is. It is especially useful early in a trip, before heading into the interior or trying to make sense of Cayenne's mix of languages, foods, and traditions.
