Getting There

By Air

The main entry point is Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport (CAY), about 15 km from the city centre. Air France and Air Caraïbes both fly direct from Paris (Orly), with flight times around 9 hours. Air Caraïbes also connects Cayenne to Martinique, Guadeloupe, and other Caribbean islands. From the Americas, there are connections via Miami (seasonal) and Belém, Brazil.

There are no budget airlines serving French Guiana. Fares from Paris are substantial, though booking well in advance can help.

By Road

There are two land border crossings:

From Brazil: The Oyapock River Bridge connects the town of Saint-Georges-de-l'Oyapock on the French side with Oiapoque in Brazil. This is a proper road crossing with immigration facilities on both sides. Buses run between Macapá (Brazil) and the border; from Saint-Georges there are taxis collectifs to Cayenne (about 3 hours).

From Suriname: There is no road bridge over the Maroni River. You cross by ferry (pirogue or car ferry) between Saint-Laurent-du-Maroni and Albina in Suriname. The ferry runs daily and takes about 20 minutes. From Paramaribo, take a bus to Albina.

By Sea

There is no regular passenger ferry service. Some cruise ships stop at the Iles du Salut.

Yellow Fever Certificate

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required of all travelers entering French Guiana, regardless of nationality or route. You will be asked for it at the airport and possibly at land borders. Get vaccinated at least 10 days before arrival.
