The headline attractions of Ciudad del Este lie outside the city: Itaipú Dam to the north and Iguazu Falls just across the Brazilian and Argentine borders. Within the city itself there is little to see — the centre is a crowded market zone best visited briefly for its curiosity value. Stay alert and leave valuables at the hotel.
