Loma Plata, the slightly older Menno-colony town 25 km east, is the centre of the Trébol dairy industry and has its own colony museum — a useful complement to Filadelfia's. Neuland, the third Mennonite colony, lies a similar distance to the south.
Defensores del Chaco National Park, 3–4 hours' drive north, is the largest protected area in Paraguay and one of the most isolated places on the continent. Visiting really needs a full-day or multi-day trip with a local guide and a 4WD; the rewards are jaguars, giant armadillos, and a landscape that feels genuinely untouched.
The indigenous villages of the Enlhet and Nivaclé communities surround the Mennonite colonies; some can be visited with local NGO guides who can also explain the complex history of the relationship between the colonies and the original inhabitants.
