Chavín's Plaza de Armas is the town's natural pause point before or after the ruins. It is modest, with a fountain, benches, the church, municipal buildings, and the small businesses that serve both residents and visitors.
Use it for orientation rather than spectacle. The tourist office is nearby, and the archaeological site is a short walk south.
