Getting There

Cajamarca has a small airport (Armando Revoredo Iglesias Airport) with regular flights to Lima, around 1.5 hours away. Several airlines serve the route — check for Latam and Sky Airline schedules. The altitude (2,750 metres) affects some people on arrival; take it easy for the first day if you have come directly from sea level.

Overland from Trujillo on the coast takes about 6–7 hours by bus through spectacular mountain scenery, crossing the western Andes via a series of hairpin switchbacks. The road is paved and the journey is genuinely rewarding if you have the time. Luxury bus services (Cruz del Sur, Cial) run overnight. From Lima, the overnight bus takes around 14 hours.
