Ollantaytambo is the last town on the road before Machu Picchu and the start of the Inca Trail at km 82, so most people pass through it in a hurry. It rewards staying: the terraces above the village are the best-preserved Inca site you can walk up without a permit, and the street plan is the original one.

What is bookable here divides into the village agencies — Sacred Valley days and Machu Picchu packages, arranged same-day in a way Cusco cannot manage — and two things you will not find elsewhere: the cliff capsules above the valley, and the weaving co-operatives up the Patacancha.
