A small archaeological museum in central Piura holding the finest known collection of Vicús-culture artefacts — ceramics, gold ornaments, and copper tools from a pre-Inca people who farmed the Piura river valley between roughly 100 BC and AD 400. The Vicús were great metallurgists, and the gold pieces on display in the basement Sala de Oro are the highlights.
The collection is small enough to take in within an hour but rewards the time. Most labels are in Spanish only; an English-speaking guide can be arranged for a tip. The building itself is a plain modern block, easy to miss from the street.
