Blauwgrond began as a Javanese village north of the old city and is now part of Paramaribo's urban spread. Its draw is food rather than monuments: simple warungs cluster around Josephine Samson Greenstraat and serve Javanese-Surinamese dishes such as saoto, bami, nasi, satay, and fried snacks.
Come in the evening, when more kitchens are open, and choose by what looks busy. Mirosso offers a more comfortable introduction, while Warung Renah keeps the small-warung feel. Blauwgrond is well outside the walkable historic centre, so use a taxi and arrange the return rather than hoping to find one late.
