Casa del Correo del Orinoco

Bolívar's revolutionary printing press

A single-storey colonial house on the Paseo Orinoco, once home to the printing press where Simón Bolívar produced Correo del Orinoco, the revolutionary newspaper that propagandised the cause of independence between 1818 and 1822. The Casa is now a small museum displaying original presses, printed copies, and personal effects of the staff who worked here under Bolívar's direction.

The building is modest — a few rooms around a central courtyard — but the historical weight of what was decided here makes it a worthwhile twenty-minute stop. The neighbouring blocks of the Paseo retain other colonial buildings of the period.
