Getting There

Most visitors arrive at the small Tomás de Heres Airport (CBL) just south of the centre. Domestic flights connect Ciudad Bolívar with Caracas (1h15) and Puerto Ordaz; the light-aircraft flights to Canaima also depart from here. By road, the city is on the north bank of the Orinoco at the meeting of routes from Caracas (about ten hours) and Puerto Ordaz (one hour east). Long-distance buses arrive at the terminal on Avenida República.

Crossings of the Orinoco are by ferry from the Paseo (operating in daylight only and depending on river conditions) or via the Angostura Bridge five kilometres upriver. Personal security advice for Venezuela applies: travel by day, take known taxis, leave valuables in your accommodation.
