Juan Griego

Margarita fishing town with a west-facing bay, waterfront sunsets, and Fortín de la Galera above.

Juan Griego is a small fishing town on the north coast of Margarita, famous for one thing: its sunsets. The bay faces west and the sun drops straight into the water, framed by the hills on either side. People gather at the waterfront restaurants each evening to watch.

Above the town sits Fortín de la Galera, a small Spanish fort from the independence wars. The views from up there are worth the short climb even outside of sunset hour. The town itself is quiet and unhurried -- a pleasant contrast to the busier south coast.
