Algiers is not a late-night city. Public transport shuts down around 8pm and most businesses close with it, so the drinking scene is concentrated in a few pockets — hotel bars, the coastal strip, and the hills overlooking the bay. That said, the cafe culture is genuine: Algerois love to linger over coffee and conversation, and some places pick up on weekend nights.
Chez Freres Acherar
One of the quieter places to drink in Algiers. A wide selection of coffee, sodas, local beer and spirits in an American-style bar — no dance floor, no loud music. A good spot for conversation.
Bar Secret Garden
Just off Rue Didouche Mourad, next to Fac Centrale. Popular with students. The food is surprisingly decent — take a tray and point at what you want. Expect to pay under 500 DA per person.
Cafe Danbech
A large cafe with a young, cosmopolitan crowd. Service can be slow, but the daily specials — gratins, pizzas — are worth the wait. There is a small dance floor that gets going on weekend nights.
