The Maison de la Culture Mouloud Mammeri (named after the Kabyle novelist and linguist) is the main performing arts and cultural events centre in central Algiers. Theatre, concerts, film screenings, and literary events are held here regularly. The programming spans traditional Algerian music — rai, chaabi, gnawa — and contemporary theatre.
Check local listings or ask at the tourist office for the current programme. Tickets are inexpensive. The building is near the Grand Poste on the main central axis of the colonial city. Even if there is nothing on during your visit, the exterior is worth noting as an example of how the post-independence state adapted French colonial public buildings.
