Mujahid Museum

The Mujahid Museum documents the Algerian War of Independence (1954–1962) and sits on the ridge just below the Martyrs' Memorial. The collection is extensive and emotionally charged: photographs, weapons, documents, uniforms and personal testimonies chart the eight-year struggle against French colonial rule. Many artefacts are accompanied by accounts from veterans and survivors.

The museum is built for an Algerian audience, and most labels are in Arabic, with some in French. That said, the photographs alone communicate the history clearly. For anyone trying to understand the depth of feeling Algerians carry about independence — which still shapes the country's politics and identity — this museum is essential context.

Open 9am–12 noon and 2pm–5:30pm daily except Friday morning. Free entry.
